I've always loved baking, ever since I was a teenager, I found a love for it. Often, I could be found in the kitchen making chocolate chip cookies from scratch, with the scent of fresh-baked cookies wafting around the house. But naturally, as the course goes, when you become a wife and then a mother, priorities change and life gets busy and hectic.
That's not to say that I still don't like baking, because I do still love it, but there just aren't enough hours in the day to do the shopping for the ingredients, setting everything up, and ultimately getting them into the oven and baked to a nice golden brown. The whole process from shopping to getting them out of the oven could take anywhere from 1-3 hours, which takes away time from other things. Often though, I wished that I could whip up a batch of cookies, because I find baking relaxing, and fun. Not only that, it would be great to pass on my love of baking to Syrus, my little boy.
I literally started jumping up and down (yes, it has been that long since I have baked!) I was so excited to check out what they had to offer! Cookie kits?! I could still enjoy doing what I love, without the hassle of running to the store and trying to find everything I need...all the ingredients I need are right in the box! That right there, that is a busy mom's dream!
When I received the package with my cookie kits in them, I was excited to get Syrus in the kitchen with! We decided together that we both wanted to make the chocolate chip cookies, because everyone in our house loves chocolate chip cookies! So, we grabbed the box:
The first thing I noticed about these kits are the easy-to-read directions on the back of the package. If there is one thing I hate, it's directions that are all over the place. With the Scratch & Grain cookie kits, they make it easy for everyone to follow the directions. They even give suggestions on the back to make the cookies your own. If you want to add something to the cookies to give them something a little extra, they encourage that!
The other thing that I really enjoyed was that all of the ingredients are numbered. Why, you ask? They correspond with the directions on the back of the box! This made it especially easy for my little guy to help out, I would just ask him where bag number three was, or if he could grab bag number 5 for me. It really made things a lot easier for the both of us, while also teaching him more about numbers, and I am all for teaching my child in unconventional ways, and this is certainly one of them!
Once we got everything mixed:
It was ready to go in the oven, so Syrus grabbed the cookie sheet:
Once we had that, we were both able to scoop the cookie dough onto the baking sheet, and then it was time for them to go into the oven for 11-13 minutes! My little one was all over the place waiting for them to come out of the oven so he could sample one!
These cookies were a huge hit in our house! Everyone thought they were incredibly delicious and soft!  But the thing that I love most about these cookies are that they are healthy, too! Their cookie kits feature only ingredients that are organic or sustainably sourced, and healthy ingredients, too, like flax seeds, raisins and more! Any parent knows how hard it can be to get their children to eat healthy foods, and with these cookie kits, it's incredibly easy, you don't even have to think about it!
All in all, I think that these cookie kits are something that I am going to be getting a lot more of in the future. The whole family seems to enjoy their yummy taste and textures, and I love that they are so easy to make and are filled with healthy ingredients!
